Gingivectomy is a simple procedure that involves the removal of gum tissue, while crown lengthening combines gum removal with bone reshaping.
Periodontal disease is a common oral health issue that often involves inflammation and infection of the gums, the soft tissues surrounding the teeth. Various treatments may be required for these issues, including periodontal surgeries like “Gingivectomy” and “Gingivoplasty”.
In some cases where a patient’s gum condition is not too severe, with only minor discrepancies, we can opt for minimally invasive treatment using lasers. This method results in smaller incisions, less bleeding, and involves the removal of gum tissue without the need for extensive excisions and sutures. This is part of the crown lengthening procedure. The purpose of this surgery is to eliminate excess gum tissue that has overgrown on the teeth. By doing so, this area becomes easier to clean. Periodontists typically administer local anesthesia to numb the patient’s gum tissue and then remove the excess gum tissue from the oral cavity
